Joey – formosan tripawd

Completely unsure if I am using this correctly but here goes nothing:

So we are in the early stages of our rescue adventure; we brought her home a week ago and we have fallen completely in love but we are struggling.  Joey is totally feral and a tripawd to boot so we are in very new territory here. She is only 1 .5 yrs old. Any advice would be really helpful. Her hind leg was caught in a trap in Taiwan, the leg was amputated above the joint so she was left with the bit of a stub. According to the records she is 2- 3 months post amputation but because she is so feral we are having a hard time telling if there is any issues with phantom pain.

She is getting much more comfortable in the home but we have had to close her in her crate for periods of time so she will calm down, lie down and sleep otherwise she is very active following us around the house for hours – she is now loose at night but is going into her crate on her own to sleep. We are only walking her for short periods at this time because she is so afraid of the being leashed and walking for that matter – we are hoping this will adjust when she adjusts to the routine.  Last night was the first night she was really calm and hanging out with us although she still won’t let us get too close- we noticed some major twitching with her stump and it took some time for her to get comfortable. We will be keeping an eye on it again tonight to see if the same thing happens. The amputation seems completely healed and she has no mobility issues other than the tile floor in our kitchen if she gets spooked. I guess I am on here to tell our story, get advice, and to get information about tripawds.
